Why I have 3 media players that do some of the same things.

1. The endless Music

I at first I fell in love with this program. I like being able to find music on the web with out using spam catchers like Limewire. We all download music and sometimes we actually pay. But for me I’ve tried ITunes and the quality is not what I paid for. Oh and one important factor is that I’m using Ubuntu. And there’s not that may resources for paid music. (Meaning I can’t pay for the music I want because it’s lock away in CD or DRM music.) So searching for the music I want is so easy I just need to click download. I know what you’re thinking. You just think I don’t pay any of my music. That’s not true. If I get the single later I will buy the CD. But only if the CD is good. Songbird does have music stores so it’s a great way to promote your music and generate sales.

2. Podcasting issues

This could be the ultimate podcasting program if it did video. I know it looks like ITunes but it’s not ITunes. It’s ITunes for Linux. Subscribing to feed is so easy or if you want you can download a single podcast because there treated like music to songbird. As I said before it needs video. If you could just find a way that will push video to an external player then this would be the only player I would use. Is there an extension for this?

1. The endless Video

I’ve spent a whole Saturday watching video. When you start you really can’t stop. I started with Diggnation. Then I started to watch news of there new shows like ABC News. I don’t watch the news on TV but I did on my computers. Weird? I think it was shorter segments so that it wasn’t so boring. It highlighted things around the world more and wasn’t so USA all the way idea. Real journalism in the US? There were other shows like Democracy Now which I show Kevin Rose was looking for in a episode of Diggnation. (He said something like I wish there was a daily show that did real news professionally.) This is the show he was looking for. I also found 2500 other videos though there Miro guide or just add any you RSS feeds into it.

2. Podcasting issues

The issue here is that it’s a memory hog. I like to have it in the background with the torrents a flowin’. But I can’t have that for too long. It’s great with video but with audio not so good. The playlist are too clunky for me. I use XMMS or Banshee. Making this another player I need to just get my video. And the funny thing about the torrents is that there legal? Never thought of that.

PenguinTV

1. The endless Video

PenguinTV was a good idea for RSS and Podcasting. But this is for people who already know what they want to watch. I love this idea. Cut out the player just have the RSS reader and download manager. Straight and simple programming. Why didn’t any else do this. Other than Juice (Ipodder). You can read other RSS while you play your audio or video in another program. It takes up less memory and you can see the show notes.

2. Podcasting issues

One problem is the some RSS feeds come with it but it would be nice to have a network to find more. I know where to look but for new users? Were would you (as a new user) go to find podcast or even RSS if you didn’t know what it was. There’s a help area but please give a clue to some network for that user. This is small but they could put some podcast like Daily Source Code in because it highlights other podcast.
